There are only a couple cases where performing an in-place upgrade of Domino to a new version will cause SpamSentinel to stop working.
1. Upgrading from Domino version 12 or older to Domino version 14 or newer.
Starting with Domino 14 the installers from HCL make changes to how Domino is installed and where files are located which can cause SpamSentinel to stop working. These problems are easy to fix. Read the details in our Knowledge Base Entry
2. Upgrading Domino from a 32-bit version to a 64-bit version.
In this case the existing SpamSentinel components which are already on disk are 32-bit versions and they will not run once Domino is upgraded. SpamSentinel will need to be re-installed. We suggest the following procedure.
1. Ensure that Domino will not immediately start trying to receive and route SMTP mail once the Domino upgrade has been completed and the server started again. You can do this in a few ways, two of which we've listed here:
a. Configure Domino to not run the SMTP server task.
b. Block inbound SMTP traffic using a firewall.
2. Upgrade the Domino server
3. Launch the Domino server
4. Download the latest version of the SpamSentinel for Domino installer from https://www.maysoft.com/ss and open it in a Notes client.
5. Carry out an installation of SpamSentinel to the upgraded server.
6. Allow Domino to start receiving mail again by undoing whichever option was used in step 1
