This procedure is only applicable to SpamSentinel installed as a Checking Machine.
The SpamSentinel components which integrate with the Domino API keep resources on the machine locked which prevent the local Notes client from being opened. There are a few simple steps that can be taken to shut down these components first which will then allow the Notes client to be opened and the SpamSentinel installation to be removed easily.
1. From a different machine, use the Notes client to open the Domino Directory on the server where mail is being received. Edit the messaging 'Configuration' document which applies to that server, and disable the mail rule 'When all documents change routing state - mark as held'.
2. Either from the Domino Administration client or a Domino server console, issue the command 'set rules' to the Domino server. This will force the rule change to take effect immediately.
3. Wait at least 30 seconds to ensure all mail which has previously been put on hold by this Rule has a chance to get scanned and taken off hold by SpamSentinel running on the Checking Machine. If you are using the 'Message Scan Delay' option in SpamSentinel, you should at least wait as many seconds as you have configured in that option, then an additional 30 seconds. If you have any question whether you have waited long enough, look in your server's mail.box file(s) to see if any messages are still on hold.
4. Before attempting to open the Notes client on the Checking Machine, you will first need to disable some of the SpamSentinel services. Open the Services manager and Stop the service named 'SpamSentinel Monitor1'. This will also cause several other of the SpamSentinel Services to terminate.
5. Stop the SpamSentinel Manager service. You do not need to stop the 'SpamSentinel Duo1' or 'SpamSentinel Duo 2' services.
6. Download the latest SpamSentinel installer for Non-Windows server to this workstation from https://www.maysoft.com/ss
7. Launch the Notes client on the Checking Machine using the 'Run as Administrator' option.
8. Open the downloaded installer in the Notes client.
9. Click the 'Remove SpamSentinel' button and follow the directions in the installer from there.
